Spin class here I come!

It's official!

I've booked myself onto my first ever spin class!

One week today I will be starting my new year, new body, new healthy me!

It's my 28th birthday this Friday and I'm hoping that I'll receive some new workout gear!

I've never done an exercise class before. Actually come to think of it the last time that I actually properly exercised was in school!

The class is 45 minutes long and I'm expecting to be completely worn out and exhausted afterwards, but I'm hoping that with more and more practise this will improve and hopefully get easier!

I'll update again soon with my starting weight and I'll post regularly about what I'm eating too.

I'll weigh in once a month as this will help me to track my progress.

Until next time!

Healthy Eating Week 1. Meal Planning.

I've decided to follow the NHS Live Well 12 Week Plan.

This worked well for me at the beginning of the year which is why I'll be following it again. I'm not going to start this diet until January, but I like to plan ahead so I've been looking into meals and the best things to eat.

According to the NHS Live Well plan I should be consuming 1,400 calories a day. The best way to do this is as follows:

  • Breakfast: 280 calories
  • Lunch: 420 calories
  • Dinner: 420 calories
  • Other food and drinks: 280 calories
Week one is about filling up on fibre. Wholegrain breakfasts, beans, fruit, vegetables etc.

My main problem with my eating habits is snacking. I snack far too much on things that I shouldn't. Chocolate, crisps, honey on toast! The phrase 'everything in moderation' just isn't in my dictionary!

I also tend to eat more in the evenings when our girls are in bed. From January onward I will have a 'no eating after 7pm rule'!

I haven't weighed myself yet, so I'll write another update on the day that I start my new healthy eating plan with this information, but for now here is meal plan for week one.

A little update of some progress I've made on my goals

In my last post I shared details about how I plan to achieve my goals. I have already made some progress so I thought I would share my progress with you!

Goal: Lose weight

Today I went to my local leisure centre and signed up for a free active membership card.

This means that I can now take part in some of the classes.

I'm planning on starting off with one class a week and then the more I get used to it I might increase that to twice a week, but we'll see!

The class I think I'll most likely go for is circuits. On the leisure centre website this is described as:

This workout combines both aerobic activities and strength conditioning exercises, to give you one of the ultimate fitness classes. Burn those calories to the Max! Suitable for all levels, just come along and challenge yourself!

It sounds perfect for me as I'm a complete beginner, although it is an hour long so I hope I last that long!

I'll be starting these classes in January.

How I aim to achieve my goals in 2015

If you've read my about me page, then you’ll probably already have seen that I have a list of goals that I would like to achieve in 2015.

These include:
  • Lose weight
  • Lead a more active and healthy lifestyle
  • Complete a first aid course
  • Read one book a month
  • Complete Cancer Research UK’s Race for life
  • Improve my photography
  • Learn to speak Italian
  • Spend more time outdoors with our girls
This post is my action plan! I’ll share with you how I intend on achieving these goals and if you have any handy hints or tips please share them with me!

So first up….

Losing weight

Back in January of this year I started the NHS Live Well 12 week plan to lose weight and I did really well on it. I lost one stone in one month, but sadly I started to snack again and before I knew it I’d put that weight back on.

I fully intend to start this again in January 2015, although now that I’ve sold my cross-trainer and weights I might find the exercising part a tad more difficult.

I don’t get much time to myself as I work two days a week and then the rest of the week is spent looking after my twins. I don’t have any childcare available to me and putting my girls into a crèche just isn’t an option for me. All that leaves me is the evenings. I might see if I can find a local evening class or just find some simple at-home exercises to do.

I think finding a local class will give me a better chance as I’ll have to go out to do it, whereas doing my own exercise at home might leave me feeling a bit unmotivated as I’d be doing it on my own, probably in my small kitchen surrounded by food!

Hello and welcome!

Hello,

Thanks for visiting my new little corner of the internet!

To save me from repeating myself why not check out my about page to find out why I've started a second blog.

Some of you may know me from my first blog, Twin Mummy and Daddy, but for those of you who don't have any idea who I am I'll introduce myself!

I'm Emily.

I'm 27, nearly 28 years old.

I'm a mum to my beautiful twin girls who will be three in February and I'm married to Nigel.

This blog is my space!

My therapy!

My place to rant!

My journey of self-discovery!

I write about being a mum and my family life over on my other blog, so this blog is a place just for me to write about the things that I want to write about.

The things that interest me.

It will include book reviews, outdoor living, fashion, beauty, home interiors, cooking, travelling and so much more!

More to come soon!
